New World Bank evaluation calls for more cross-border solutions to development challenges

The World Bank Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) has released a new evaluation entitled ”The Development Potential of Regional Programs ”, the most comprehensive assessment of regional programs to date. Regional development programs have a huge, yet under-exploited potential to advance economic growth and reduce poverty. These programs can deliver strong results, such as providing reliable energy, managing shared water resources and combating the spread of communicable diseases. Although existing programs have done well, support for regional cooperation remains limited, and programs often lack sufficient planning to make them sustainable.
